TOWSON, Md. – Five teams who made last season's
NCAA Tournament highlight the 2012 Towson University men's soccer schedule, it
has been announced by Tiger Head Coach Frank
Olszewski.
“This is a very competitive schedule, which includes five
teams that were involved in last season's NCAA Tournament,” Olszewski said. “It
is a schedule that will challenge our team and prepare them for the CAA
Tournament and ultimately the NCAA tournament. We have some very exciting home
games and we look forward to the support from all of our fans and the
Towson University student body to act as our 12th man."
Towson will open the season with a home date Friday, Aug. 24
at 5:00 p.m. against Monmouth. The Hawks had a very successful season in 2011,
reaching the second round of the NCAA Tournament after defeating Stony Brook in
the opening round. Monmouth finished the season with a record of 14-6-2.
The Tigers will then take to the road for two games against
Mount St. Mary's on Aug. 28 and Albany on Sept. 1. Last season, the Tigers
earned a 4-1 victory over the Great Danes behind Olakunle Banjo's two goals.
The Tigers return to the Tiger Soccer Complex Wednesday,
Sept. 5 for a match with Howard at 4:00 p.m. and Sept. 11 to face cross-town
rival Loyola (Md.), also at 4:00 p.m.
Towson will then play three of its next four games on the
road as it wraps up September. The Cincinnati Bearcats of the BIG EAST
Conference will host the Tigers on Sept. 14 at 7:30 p.m. Towson will play host to
Georgia State on Sept. 22 at noon before traveling to conference foes James
Madison on Sept. 29 and Delaware on Oct. 3. The Panthers, Dukes and Delaware
were participants in the NCAA Tournament last season.
After battling the Blue Hens, Towson will play three times
over the next 10 days, beginning with William & Mary at home Saturday, Oct.
6. The team will face Hofstra in Hempstead, N.Y. Wednesday, Oct. 10 and then
begin another two-game home-stand as the Drexel Dragons come to the Tiger
Soccer Complex Saturday, Oct. 13 for a 12:00 p.m. contest.
The George Mason Patriots come to Towson Wednesday, Oct. 17
after which the Tigers will face the Old Dominion Monarchs in Norfolk, Va.
Saturday Oct. 20 under the lights at 7:00 p.m.
The Tigers will play their home finale against Northeastern
on Wednesday Oct. 24, and then face the UNC Wilmington Seahawks in the season
finale in Wilmington Saturday Oct. 27 at 7:00 p.m.
