Two Tigers Honored By College Sports Madness

TOWSON, Md. - Senior co-captain Cheyenne Skidmore and sophomore defender Sofia Read were named to the College Sports Madness 2012 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Preseason All-Conference Second Team, it was announced today.

Skidmore started 16 of 19 games played last year and led the team with eight goals and nine assists. She was named to the third team All-CAA in 2011 and earned CAA Player of the Week honors on Sept. 12 after she led the Tigers to a pair of wins over UMBC and Mount St. Mary’s. Skidmore ranked tied for sixth in the league in total points (25) and fourth in points per game (1.32) last season. She currently stands seventh in Towson history with 45 career points. Her eight goals in 2011 tied her for eighth in the conference, while she stood second in the CAA in assists (9).

Read was a 2011 CAA All-Rookie Team selection. A starter in 15 of 19 games, she was the team’s third-leading scorer with 12 points on four goals and four assists. Read was named CAA Rookie of the Week on Aug. 22 after she scored the first goal of her college career in Towson’s first-ever victory over Loyola (Md.).
