TOWSON, Md. – The Tiger field
hockey team will kick off its 2012 campaign with a two-game road trip to the
state of Connecticut.
Towson will visit Sacred Heart on Friday,
August 24 at noon before traveling to Quinnipiac on Sunday, August 26 also for
a noon game.
Sixth-year
head coach Michelle Webber welcomes
back 15 letter winners from her 2011 team that won 10 games and advanced to the
Colonial Athletic Association tournament for the first time since 2008. Webber
will look to senior co-captains Janine Kovach and Megan Penza to
provide leadership this season. Kovach had five goals and one assist last year
while Penza proved
to be a key component on defense.
Sacred Heart will
be playing its season opener on Friday against the Tigers. The Pioneers went
6-12 last season and 3-4 in Northeast Conference play. Lindsay Kasten returns
for the Pioneers after posting 15 points and six goals last season.
Quinnipiac will
travel to Holy Cross on Friday before returning home to host the Tigers on
Sunday. The Bobcats were picked to finish fourth in the Northeast Conference
this season after posting an 11-8 mark last year.
The Tigers will be
back in action on Friday, August 31 when they travel to Virginia for a game at 3 p.m.
