Extra Time: Last night, the Towson women's soccer team played its first double overtime game since Sept. 16, 2011 when the Tigers defeated Campbell 2-1. Twenty-three times Towson has needed at least one extra period over the last six seasons; 14 of those matches went into double overtime. The Tigers have a 2-4-8 record in their double-OT matches during Head Coach Greg Paynter's tenure.
Seeing Double: Towson is part of two double-headers this weekend. Last night at Loyola, the Tigers were the nightcap of a pair of matches. The Loyola men lost to LaSalle in overtime on a penalty kick before Towson and the Loyola women played to a 1-1 double overtime tie. Tomorrow afternoon, the Tigers will play in the first game of a double-header at Maryland. After Towson's match, the Maryland men face California.
A Real Pair: Senior Cheyenne Skidmore and junior Kat Sipes combined once again to score for Towson. Skidmore went on a breakaway after receiving a pass and lifted her shot over the Loyola keeper's head. The two combined on Skidmore's other goal this year - against DePaul - when she received a through ball from Sipes and scored near post.
Offensive Explosion: The Tigers' 17 shots last night nearly equaled their output from the previous three games combined (18). Senior Cheyenne Skidmore took seven of those shots - a career high. Towson also held the advantage in corner kicks last night, 6-2. It is the first time this season the Tigers have done so, and the six corner kicks are the most Towson has taken in one game this season.
