TOWSON, Md. – Despite dropping its season opener at Kent
State University, the Towson University football team remained ranked among the
Top 25, according to The Sports Network's weekly poll.
Towson dropped from seventh in the nation to the 13th spot.
Towson has now been ranked in The Top 25 for 12 consecutive weeks dating back
to September 26, 2011.
Sam Houston State remained as the top-ranked team, just
ahead of defending national champion North Dakota State. Georgia Southern
(1-0), Montana State (1-0) and James Madison (1-0) remained ranked
one-through-five.
Youngstown State (1-0) made the largest jump in the Top 25
rankings as the Penguins climbed from 13th to sixth after a 31-17 win at the
University of Pittsburgh. Old Dominion moved up to seventh while Northern Iowa
(0-1) advanced from ninth to eighth after a 26-21 at Wisconsin. No. 9 Eastern
Washington (1-0) also moved into the top ten while Wofford remained tenth in
the rankings.
Appalachian State (0-1) and Towson (0-1) dropped out of the
top ten after losing games to NCAA FBS opponents. Appalachian State fell to
East Carolina while Towson lost to Kent State.
Towson is one of six Colonial Athletic Association teams
ranked in the Top 25 this week. William and Mary, Richmond and Villanova are
also listed among those receiving votes.
The Tigers return to action on Saturday, Sept. 15 when they
host William and Mary at 12 noon in their home opener.
