TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University men's and
women's swimming and diving teams have announced their schedules for the
2012-13 season. Highlighted by five home meets, the Tigers will compete in 10
regular season dual meets and two invitationals, in addition to an Alumni Meet on September 29.
“There are some great changes to our
schedule this year,” Towson head coach Pat Mead said. ”The long term goals of our program fall in line with adding
more and more competitive teams to our dual meet season. Our hope is that our
alumni and team will rally around these exciting changes to our schedule.”
For the Tigers' first regular season meet, they will take on
Colonial Athletic Association opponent William & Mary at
Burdick Pool on October 6 at 1 p.m.
Towson returns to the pool on October 20 when they take on
Georgetown, a team the Tigers swept on the men's and women's side last
season.
On November 2-3, a trio of opponents from the CAA awaits the
Tigers as they travel to Old Dominion to face the Monarchs, Northeastern and
George Mason in Norfolk, Va., as part of a POD meet.
The Tigers wrap up the fall portion of their schedule in a
home meet against George Washington on November 10 at 1 p.m.
The Tigers begin 2013 on January 5 against
Howard and host their second consecutive home meet against George Mason on
January 12.
The CAA dual-meet schedule then concludes when the Tigers
travel to Delaware on January 19. Towson swept the Blue Hens in exciting form
last season. The Tiger men's team defeated the Blue Hens on the last relay of
the meet in 2011 to earn their first CAA dual meet victory since 2007.
After swimming in the Notre Dame Invite on January 25-26, the
Tigers conclude the dual meet season against Penn State on February 2,
something Mead and his team are excited about.
“Penn State is a quality addition to our schedule and we are
looking forward to the opportunity to compete up in State College,” he said. “In
addition, Notre Dame should be another great challenge for our team.”
The Tigers conclude the regular season at the Virginia Tech
Invite on February 9-10 before heading to the CAA Championships February
27-March 2.
Under Mead's guidance, the Tiger women's swimming and diving
team has won four of the last five CAA titles.
