TIGERS HOPE TO CONTINUE SUCCESS IN HOME OPENERS:
When Towson hosts William & Mary on Saturday afternoon, the Tigers will be seeking their ninth straight victory in a home opener ... Towson has not lost its home opener since 2004 when Northeastern handed Towson a 27-3 loss ... The Tigers, who have a 33-10 record in their home openers, have beaten Morgan State (29-26) in 2005, Morgan State (30-2) in 2006, Central Connecticut (20-10) in 2007, Morgan State (21-16) in 2008, Coastal Carolina (21-17) in 2009 and Coastal Carolina (47-45 in five overtimes) in 2010 ... Towson beat Morgan State in last year's home opener, 42-3 ... Towson has faced Morgan State in its home opener nine times and the
Tigers have a 7-2 record.

This is the third time that the Tigers have faced a conference rival in their home opener ... On Sept. 8, 2001, Towson edged Lafayette in overtime, 16-13 ... On Sept. 25, Towson lost to Northeastern, 27-3.

This is the fourth time in the last five years that Towson will play its home opener after opening the season on the road against an FBS team ... Towson is 3-0 when playing its home opener after a road loss in the opener on the road to an FBS team ... In 2008, the Tigers bounced back from a 41-13 loss at Navy to beat Morgan State, 21-16 ... After losing the season opener to Northwestern (47-14) in 2009, the Tigers returned home to beat Coastal Carolina, 21-17 ... In 2010, Towson dropped a 51-17 decision at Indiana and rebounded with a dramatic 47-45 win over Coastal Carolina in five overtimes.

TIGERS vs. WILLIAM & MARY: The Tigers and the Tribe are meeting for the ninth time
in the series this week ... William & Mary won the first seven games in the series ... However, the Tigers earned their first-ever win over the Tribe last year in Williamsburg, 38-27. In last year's game, both teams came into the game nationally ranked ... The No. 15 Tigers scored on all four first half possessions to take a 28-17 halftime lead over the No. 14 Tribe ... William & Mary came into the game with the top-ranked defense in the Colonial Athletic Association ... But Towson piled up 427 yards of offense and scored 38 points ... Terrance West led the Tigers with 141 yards on 23 carries and scored three touchdowns to out-perform Jonathan Grimes of William & Mary, who ran for 133 yards on 30 attempts with a touchdown ... When W&M pulled to within 35-27 with 8:08 remaining, the Tigers used up more than six minutes on a 75-yard drive ... D.J. Soven gave Towson a 38-27 lead when he kicked a 19-yard field goal with 2:04 remaining.

The teams met for the first time in 1992 in a non-conference game in Williamsburg ... The Tribe won, 43-15 ... The teams did not play again until 2004 when they became conference rivals ... William & Mary has a 3-0 record against Towson at Unitas Stadium ... The Tribe earned wins at Towson in 2004 (41-16), in 2006 (29-28) and 2008 (34-14).

The two closest games in the series came in 2006 and 2007 ... In 2006, the Tribe rallied from a 28-17 deficit in the final 13 minutes and won on a 34-yard field goal by Blair Pritchard in the final seconds, 29-28 ... Quarterback Mike Potts led the Tribe to the come-from-behind win by completing 28 of 44 passes for 409 yards and two
touchdowns ... In 2007, William & Mary overcame a 13-0 first half deficit to edge the Tigers, 29-22 ... The Tribe scored 17 second quarter points and led at halftime, 17-16 ... In the loss, the Tigers actually outgained the Tribe in yardage by 422-284.

Coach Rob Ambrose has a 1-1 record against the Tribe ... In 2009, Towson lost at William & Mary ... The teams did not play in 2010 ... Last year, Towson won, 38-27.
