EMMITSBURG, Md. - The Towson University women's tennis team opened its dual match slate with a 5-2 victory over Mount St. Mary's Thursday afternoon. The Tigers (1-0) earned a doubles point by winning two of three doubles matches and four of six singles matches.
The Tigers' combination of junior Nani Lizana and senior Andrea Samlin defeated the Mount's doubles team of Samantha Pinchoff and Kelly Conroy by an 8-3 score, while sophomore Cailey Easdale and Moriah Burke also earned a doubles victory for Towson.
Lizana was the only Tiger to earn a doubles and singles win Thursday, as she upended Pinchoff 7-6 (10-8), 6-1.
Junior Nisha Shah and freshman Lorena Ferrer were also impressive in singles play for the Tigers, as each earned singles victories in straight sets. Shah collected a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Renee Deane, while Ferrer picked up a 6-4, 6-2 win over Liz Rossi.
Towson will return to the courts on October 12-14 for a tournament at Navy.
