TOWSON, Md. - Towson University's Department of Athletics has released the latest installment of its 2012-13 Points of Pride. The Points of Pride have been designed to highlight and represent the best of Tiger Athletics and are updated on a monthly basis.
Community Service:
• The football team hosted a pink game on Saturday, Oct.13 in conjunction with the Pink P.A.W.S. (Proud Athletes Who Serve) student organization, to support breast cancer research and awareness.
• The men's basketball team hosted its second annual Fun Run for Autism on Thursday, Oct. 11, raising money for the Kennedy Krieger Institute and the Center for Adults with Autism on Towson's campus.
• Towson men's basketball head coach Pat Skerry and members of the Tiger basketball team participated in a local wheelchair basketball fundraiser on September 17 at the Leadership Through Athletics Gymnasium in Lansdowne, Md.
• The Tiger men's and women's lacrosse teams competed at the Play for Parkinson's on October 8. Funds raised in the event went to research and awareness to help fight Parkinson's disease.
Cross Country:
• Towson sophomore Elizabeth Tauber was named CAA Runner of the Week on September 25 after finishing second in the 2012 Towson Invitational at Oregon Ridge Park. Her time of 19:00.86 was the second-fastest in a 5K for her career.
Field Hockey:
• Towson sophomore Tashani Dickson ranks among the top 10 nationally in saves per game as of October 7.
Men's Soccer:
• Towson freshman goalkeeper Felix Petermann was named CAA Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week on September 24 after posting his first career shutout in a 1-0 victory over Georgia State. He made five saves in the win.
Swimming and Diving:
• Towson junior Kaitlin Burke earned CAA Women's Swimmer of the Week on October 9 after winning three events against the William & Mary Tribe in Towson's 197-95 season-opening victory. She took first place in the 200-yard freestyle (recording a time of 1:50.45), 500-yard freestyle (4:55.04) and 1,000-yard freestyle (9:59.87).
• Towson sophomore Lyndsey Dickson qualified for the NCAA Diving Zone Regionals and won CAA Women's Diver of the Week on October 9 after claiming victories in both the one- and three-meter dives against William & Mary. She scored 272.00 points in the one-meter and 301.50 points in the three-meter event.
• Towson senior Alex Cohen was awarded CAA Men's Diver of the Week on October 9 after winning the one- and three-meter diving events against William & Mary. Cohen scored 270.95 points in the one-meter dive and 281.75 points in the three-meter competition.
Volleyball:
• Senior setter Aubrey Kirven was named CAA Co-Offensive Player of the Week on September 17 after leading the Tigers to a 3-0 record and the tournament championship at the Hilton University 49er Invitational.
• Kirven is ranked second nationally in assists per set as of October 7.
• Marta Machos and I'ishah Keliikoa each were awarded CAA honors on September 24. Machos was named CAA Offensive Player of the Week, while Keliikoa took home CAA Defensive Player of the Week accolades.
• On October 14, Katy Buck became the 13th player in school history to record 1,000 career killswhen the Tigers posted a 3-2 victory over James Madison.
Women's Soccer:
• Erin Quinn has been nationally ranked in total saves for the entire month of October so far. She was ninth for the week of Oct. 1 and stood 14th for the week of Oct. 7.
