RICHMOND,
Va. – Sophomore running back Terrance West of Towson University has been named as the Colonial
Athletic Association Football Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Nov.
17, it has been announced by CAA officials.
The second-leading rusher in the CAA, West
led the Tigers to a 64-35 victory over No. 7 New Hampshire in their regular
season finale, a win that earned Towson a share of the CAA championship.
In the regular season finale, West ran for a
seasonal high 236 yards on 19 carries and scored two touchdowns to lead the
Tigers to their fourth straight win.
In the first quarter, he scored on a
four-yard TD run to give Towson a 7-6 lead. Later in the first period, he had a
64-yard run that set up Towson's second touchdown of the game.
In the first quarter at UNH, he had three
carries for 76 yards. At halftime, he had 94 yards on six carries.
Led by West, the Tigers broke the game open
in the second half. The Tigers owned a 30-28 lead at intermission before
scoring four touchdowns in a row. In the second half, West ran for 142 yards on
13 carries. With 8:23 remaining in the game, he scored on a five-yard run to
give Towson a 50-28 lead.
West, who had the second-highest single game
total of his career in the win over UNH, finished the regular season with 1,046
yards on 195 carries, second in the CAA. He also scored 15 touchdowns in 10
games to lead the CAA for the second year in a row.
In 21 career games, West has rushed for
2,340 yards on 389 carries. The fifth-leading rusher in school history, he is
averaging 6.0 yards per carry in his career.
The winner of the 2011 Jerry Rice
Award as the top freshman in FCS football, West has scored 44 touchdowns in 21
career contests. He needs only three more touchdowns to tie the school record
set by Jason Corle, '01.
For West, this marks the third time in his
career that he has been selected as the CAA Offensive Player of the Week.
Towson, which won the CAA championship for
the second year in a row, finished the regular season with a 7-4 overall record
and a 6-2 mark in the CAA. Over the last two years, Towson is 16-7 with a 13-3
record in CAA play.
