TOWSON, Md. - Calvert Hall High School is less than two miles from John B. Schuerholz Park. Three members of the Tiger baseball team took the short journey and will be competing for the Tigers this season.

Senior righthander Michael Trionfo, junior second baseman Pat Fitzgerald and freshman righthander Garrett Walther were part of very successful teams at Calvert Hall playing for Coach Lou Eckerl. They have brought a winning attitude to Towson.

Trionfo (below) enters his senior season as the Tigers' ace pitcher. He has a 17-14 career record and led the Colonial Athletic Association with 11 victories last year. As a senior at Calvert Hall, he led the Cardinals to a 26-4 record and their fifth straight MIAA championship. Trionfo finished his scholastic career with a 10-1 record and a 1.62 E.R.A.

Last season, he had the best season of his college career. A second team All- CAA selection, he posted an 11-3 record with a 3.35 E.R.A. Trionfo's 11 wins set the Towson single season record. He was also named as an All-East first team selection.

Fitzgerald has been a fixture at second base since joining the Tigers' program. An outstanding defensive player, he has a .976 fielding percentage and has made only 11 errors in his college career. A player who performs well in the clutch, he has scored 59 runs in two seasons with 46 runs batted in. He has also stolen 22 bases.

At Calvert Hall, he was a three-year starter in the infield. He earned All-MIAA honors while helping the Cardinals win back-to-back MIAA championships. At Calvert Hall, he was also the quarterback for the Cardinals' football team.

One of the Tigers' most promising freshman pitchers, Walther helped the Cardinals win the MIAA championship last season. He recorded a 9-1 record as a senior with a 2.81 E.R.A. As a freshman, he could contribute as a starting pitcher or reliever.

The Tigers, who were 27-31 last season, open their 2013 season this weekend with a three-game series at McNeese State University.
