Good morning Tiger Nation and welcome to the Morning
Roar.
Let's
Unleash the Roar
Today is game
day for @Towson_WLAX as
they travel down the road to face UMBC at 4 p.m. The Tigers are searching for their
first win of the young season. But don't let the Tigers 0-2 record, heading
into today's game, fool you. The Tigers are playing one of the toughest schedules
in the country this year. After all coaches always say, if you want to be the
best, you have to beat the best and head coach Sonia LaMonica fully believes
that. The game is set for 4 p.m. and if you can't make it to Catonsville then
you can hear the game live on the Towson Sports Network as Kate Mills and I
have the call.
@Towson_SB
was supposed to do battle at UMBC today at 2 p.m. but it was announced by head
coach Lisa Costello that the game
has been postponed. With the rain that soaked the Baltimore area all day
yesterday the two teams decided to push back the game. A date has not yet been
decided. The Tigers open their home season Friday when they host the Towson
Invitational against Lehigh, Iona and Columbia.
@Towson_SWIMDIVE
will take part in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championships on the
campus of George Mason University later today. The
Women are looking to win their fifth conference title in six years. The
women swimmers are led by junior Kaitlin Burke who will be looking to defend her 500-yard and 1,650-yard freestyle championships
from a year ago. Burke holds the top times this season in the 200-yard, 500-yard, and 1650-yard freestyle events in the CAA. The divers
are led by sophomore Lyndsey Dickson who was named CAA Women's Diver of the
Week six different times this season!
The men of @Towson_SWIMDIVE will
be lead at the championships by a trio of Matt's—Matt Lowe, Matt
Collingwood and Matt McKenney. They will also be looking to get a strong
performance from Alex Cohen on the boards who had a phenomenal season, winning
CAA Men's Diver of the Week five times!
Hardwood Talk
Last night in Fairfax, Va.
we saw a historic win for @Towson_MBB.
The 85-81 overtime win marked the first time that the Tigers have defeated George
Mason since 1992 and the first time they won in Fairfax over the Patriots since
1977! The Tigers were led by Jerrelle Benimon, who scored 22 points in the first half
and finished with a career-high 31 points. Marcus Damas took over in
the second half and finished with a season-high 23 points. But the play of the
game came from graduate student Bilal Dixon who corralled an offensive rebound and
scored to give the Tigers the lead in the OT. Towson never looked back after
that.
The Tigers play their final
game in the Towson Center on Saturday. @Towson_MBB will host Hofstra at 4
p.m. followed by @Towson_WBB
battling William & Mary at 6:30 p.m. The Towson Center has been an iconic
building in the history of this great university and in the Baltimore community
as a whole. During its heyday the Towson Center hosted some of the top acts in
comedy, music and even some NBA action. Check
out the complete history of the Towson Center here.
