TOWSON, Md. – Senior defender Alexa Demski of the Towson University women's lacrosse team capped a stellar career by earning second-team All-American honors from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA), it was announced on Wednesday.
Demski, who was an IWLCA third team honoree last year, is just the second Tiger in program history to earn multiple IWLCA All-American honors (Hillary Fratzke-2007, 2008, 2010).
“Alexa has been a vital piece to our success defensively over the last four years,” said Towson coach Sonia LaMonica. “This is a great honor and a great way to cap off her college career.”
Demski earned IWLCA first-team All-Region honors all four years of her career. Earlier this month she became the second Tiger to earn the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Defensive Player of the Year award (Julie Ondrako-2009). She was a first team All-CAA selection for the third straight season.
One of the Tigers' tri-captains, she started all 19 games in 2013 and helped the Tigers win their second straight CAA title. Demski was often given the task of guarding the opponents' top scorer, including during the NCAA Tournament game against Stony Brook. She led the team in ground balls (41) and caused turnovers (22). Earlier this season against Drexel, she had a career-high six caused turnovers and finished her career ranked second in school history with 99 caused turnovers.
