Good morning Tiger Nation and welcome to the Morning Roar.
Let's Unleash the Roar
Today marks the first day of graduations for Towson students and student-athletes for the class of 2013. The special thing about this class is that they will be the first ever class to graduate in @TigerArena. Yesterday, I had the chance to go inside the state-of-the-art building and see how they are getting ready for the class of 2013 to officially become Towson alumni.
During the final series of the season for @Towson_BASE, junior DH Kurt Wertz could not be stopped. Wertz hit the cover off the ball and hit .333 over the weekend and drove in eight runs and hit three homeruns in the three games. So, it comes as no surprise that Wertz was named Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Co-Player of the Week for the final week of the season. Wertz and the Tigers are taking on Northeastern for the fourth straight game this afternoon in the first round of the CAA Tournament. First pitch is set for noon. Fans can watch the games for free on CAA.TV as well as follow along with live stats.
Just when you thought that @Towson_WLAX's Alexa Demski's career was over, guess again. Demski has been selected to take part in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) North/South Senior All-Star Game on May 26. Demski is one of 20 student-athletes that will make up the North squad. Demski will be playing with and against many players that she and the Tigers played during the 2013 season and if I know Alexa, she is going to have a blast in this game. But attackers on the South better watch out, because she is one of the most competitive people I know so she will take the game seriously.
If you remember a few weeks back when we all voted on the top five moments in @Towson_MGOLF and @Towson_WGOLF history. Well, now we will start revealing the results. The number five moment was announced yesterday, and as voted on by you the fans, Jeff Castle's school record 63 (-8) checks in at number five. It happened back in 2004 at the James Madison Invitational and heading into the final round Castle and the Tigers found themselves down by seven strokes to Rutgers. Castle's birdie on 18 clinched the win and a round of 63. The tournament win also gave the Tigers the No. 1 ranking in the Mid-Atlantic region. Stay tuned for the rest of the top five moments as they will be released during the next few weeks.
