TOWSON, Md. ? Towson's freshman guard Troy Franklin (Parkville, Md./Mt. Carmel H.S.) has been named Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week for his part in the Tigers' 82-73 victory over Hampton this past Saturday night in the Towson Center.
Franklin scored 18 points, grabbed six rebounds and handed out six assists as Towson beat Hampton in the first meeting ever between the two schools. He scored 11 points in the final 5:40 of the game including back-to-back three-pointers to ignite a decisive 10-2 run that helped the Tigers break free from a 60-60 tie. In the final 1:06 he sank five of six free throws. He is currently Towson's second leading scorer with a 15.0 average.
Towson continues play tonight as the Tigers host NJIT in the Towson Center at 7:00 p.m.
