Tigers Host St. Joseph's Tuesday Nite

TOWSON, Md. ? Freshman guard Troy Franklin (Baltimore, Md./Mt. Carmel H.S.), who was named Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week for a second time this season, and the rest of the Tigers host St. Joseph's of Philadelphia Tuesday night in the Towson Center. Opening tip is scheduled for 7:30 P.M. The non-conference matchup is the nightcap in a doubleheader that features the Towson women hosting Navy at 5:00 P.M.

Franklin was honored for a second time this season after averaging 14.0 points, 9.0 assists and 4.5 rebounds in Towson's 1-1 week that included an 82-65 win at UMBC and a 90-79 loss to Hofstra. In the UMBC victory he was 5-7 from the field including 4-6 from three-point range and 1-2 at the foul line for 15 points. He had 9 assists and 3 steals as the Tigers snapped a 14-game losing streak and set a school record for three-point makes with 14. Against the Pride he played a team high 35 minutes, scored 13 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and dished out 9 assists.

Towson (4-4) will attempt to begin building another win streak on its home floor tomorrow night in a first-ever meeting against the Hawks (3-4). Hofstra ended the Tigers' six-game victory streak at home this past Saturday night.

St. Joseph's features one of the top players in the Atlantic 10 in 6-9 senior forward Ahmad Nivins who was named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week for his performance in the Hawks' 1-1 week. He is currently averaging a double-double at 18.3 points and 11.7 rebounds per game. He ranks among the national leaders in field goal percentage (.677), rebounding and blocked shots. He has led the Hawks in scoring in five of their seven games.

Tuesday night's men's game will be carried live on WBAL (1090 AM) Radio.
