During the next few months, TowsonTigers.com will take Tiger fans off the field with their favorite student-athletes. Recently, sophomore midfielder Peter Mezzanotte of the Tiger men's lacrosse team sat down to talk a little bit about his life on and off the field.
TowsonTigers.com: How do you feel the season is going thus far?
Peter Mezzanotte: We had a slow start but are playing better as a team and getting better each day.
TT.com: What were your personal goals coming into this season and have you met any of them at this point?
P.M.: I'd like to win the CAA and then take it game by game.
TT.com: You were recently recognized as one of the top defensive midfielders in the country by Quint Kessenich of Inside Lacrosse. What does that recognition mean to you?
P.M.: It feels good to be recognized as one of the top defensive midfielders. Our defense is playing well along with [Rob] Wheeler and as long as we keep playing well as a team, that's all that matters in the end.
TT.com: Towson University lacrosse is obviously a big part of your family with both your sister and your uncle having played here. Did their participation in the program here influence your decision to become a Towson Tiger?
P.M.: I was familiar with Towson because of my family and it made the decision easier.
TT.com: Although your sister played lacrosse here, she is currently attending graduate school at Loyola College. With the Greyhounds as a rival of Towson, has that stirred up any sort of playful rivalry between the two of you?
P.M.: Not really. She still wants Towson to succeed, so it doesn't really affect us.
TT.com: As a native of New York, did you grow up following any of the local sports teams in the region?
P.M.: I just followed our high school programs.
TT.com: You were also a football player in high school. How would you say the physical and mental demands of lacrosse compare to those of football?
P.M.: They are pretty similar in preparation; you have to be in good physical shape and be prepared to work everyday.
TT.com: What are your career goals upon your graduation from Towson?
P.M.: I'd like to become a Physical Education Teacher
TT.com: The one food you cannot live without is...
P.M.: Ribs.
TT.com: The movie you could watch time and time again is...
P.M.: Super Troopers
TT.com: Tell fans why they should come out to support the Men's Lacrosse team as they enter the second half of the season.
P.M.: We have a couple wins in a row and the games have been entertaining.
