TIGER ATHLETICS: Britt Woodfield Named Army ROTC Student-Athlete of the Month for July

TOWSON, Md. ? Senior midfielder Britt Woodfield of the two-time CAA champion Tiger women's lacrosse team has been named as the inaugural recipient of the Army ROTC 2009-10 Student Athlete of the Month award.

 

The award will honor a Towson student-athlete each month in recognition of their outstanding achievement.

 

After completing an outstanding career by leading the Tigers to their second straight CAA Championship, Woodfield was selected as one of the nominees for the prestigious NCAA® Woman of the Year Award. She was one of two nominees from the CAA, joining Georgia State University women's soccer player Candace Gonzales.

 

A four-year starter for the Tigers, Woodfield finished her career as the seventh-leading scorer in school history with 140 points, scoring 98 goals with 42 assists. She also served as a co-captain during her junior and senior years while helping the Tigers to back-to-back CAA Championships.

 

As a senior, Woodfield ranked third on the team with 53 points by scoring 37 goals with 16 assists. She also ranked second on the team with 33 draw controls. In addition, Woodfield earned second team All-CAA honors for the second straight season while leading the Tigers to a 13-6 record.

 

During her junior season, Woodfield was the Tigers' third-leading scorer with 38 points and was one of five players with 20 or more goals. She scored 19 goals with 7 assists during her sophomore season while contributing 16 goals with 7 assists as a freshman, including a career-high six goals in her college debut, a win over American.

 

In addition to her success on the lacrosse field, Woodfield was an outstanding student who was named as the Tiger Athletic Fund Scholar-Athlete of the Year as a senior. An Exercise Science and Pre-Nursing Major with a 3.86 grade point average, Woodfield earned Dean's List honors six times during her career. She also received the Zaleski Scholarship for Academic and Athletic Excellence and the Rachuba Scholarship Award as a junior.

 

In addition, Woodfield was named to the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll during her junior season. She was also selected to the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District 2 second team as a senior.

 

A four-time CAA Commissioner's List selection, Woodfield also received the Towson University Athletics Scholar Medallion, which is presented to senior student-athletes and cheerleaders who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or above.

 

Along with her duties as the president of PAWS, Towson University's Student-Athlete Advisory Council, Woodfield served as a peer mentor and participated in the 2008 NCAA Leadership Conference. She was the recipient of the James R. Saxon Award, which recognizes one graduating senior who has demonstrated leadership, service and good citizenship by contributing significantly to the campus community.

 

As a junior, Woodfield earned the Emerging Leader Award, which is given to one student by the Division of Student Affairs in recognition of outstanding potential as a campus and/or community leader.
