Towson University Sports Medicine (TUSM) is charged with producing optimal athletic performance of Towson University student-athletes while maintaining their overall health, safety, and welfare.  As an integral part of the TU Department of Athletics, TUSM works under the guidelines of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, the Colonial Athletic Association, Towson University, and the Department of Athletics to produce champions.

Sports Medicine is composed of certified athletic trainers, team physicians, and other performance and allied health care professionals who provide a rich array of intellectual and clinical techniques and philosophies of human health. TUSM cultivates a championship atmosphere of eternal evolution of new techniques to maintain a contemporary practice to foster the physical and mental development of student-athletes.

Sports Medicine produces optimal athletic performance of student-athletes through a systematic screening and training of each individual student-athlete. Grounded in the philosophy that optimal athletic performance is the result of a full complement of health care and performance professionals, as well as speed, strenght and conditioning efforts, TUSM develops the total athlete through a unique set of services:

  • Physical Conditioning - Develops sport-specific strength, power, movement, speed, agility, flexibility, and conditioning.
  • Mental Conditioning - Builds the mental skills that help athletes and teams reach their goals and compete at their best on any given day.
  • Nutrition - Optimizes personal nutrition to meet high level academic and sport demands. The goal of nutrition education and counseling is to produce optimal everyday nutrition, eating plans to meet sport-specific demands, body composition, energy balance and body weight issues, dietary supplements, hydration and maintaining nutrition while traveling.
  • Recovery, Regeneration, and Rehabilitation - Rejuvenates the body through the use of myofascial release, active-isolated, static, and dynamic flexibility, and active recovery protocols while reducing the potential of injury through corrective exercises allowing for optimal training and rehabilitating the injured student-athlete.
