TOWSON, Md. – Beginning with the Fall sports schedule and debuting on Thursday Aug. 23, 2012, audio broadcasts of Towson University Athletics events will originate from TowsonTigers.com and offer free coverage to the public. Listeners will also be able to hear over 115 broadcasts on their mobile devices after downloading the Towson Tigers iPhone/Android app and/or iPad app.

“In today’s world of rapidly advancing technology and changing listener and viewership habits, we feel that this is the right time for Towson University to make the jump into providing our network to our fans – not only around the Greater Baltimore area now, but the entire world – via our digital products,” said Senior Associate Director of Athletics Mike Harris. “With over 100 million people in the country using smartphones now, a number that is up over 38 percent in just one year’s time, we see this as the transistor radio of the future. You can plug it into your home stereo or car or simply log on to our website to hear all of the action.”

The Towson Tigers iPhone and Android apps are free to download, but offer an in-app “premium” upgrade charge of $4.99, allowing subscribers to watch on-demand video and listen to live audio broadcasts via their iPhone or Android device. The Towson Tigers iPad app has an up-front download fee of $7.99.

Programming will include weekly coverage of Tiger Talk; all football, men’s basketball and men’s lacrosse games; women’s basketball, women’s lacrosse and gymnastics home events and selected road events. Any Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) and/or NCAA Championships Tiger teams host and participate in will also be added to the slate.

Home event broadcasts taking place inside Unitas® Stadium and the Towson Center Arena will be accompanied by live video coverage on the TowsonTigers.com website. These premium packages are available for purchase on TowsonTigers.com.

Spiro Morekas, ’83 returns for his 22nd season as the Voice of the Tigers, calling the action for all Tiger football, men’s basketball and lacrosse games both at home and on the road. For the second consecutive season, he will be joined on football broadcasts by analyst Ron Meehan, a former Tiger quarterback and a member of the Towson Athletics Hall of Fame, and sideline reporter Dayne Buttafuoco.

During basketball season, Morekas will once again be joined on broadcasts by Vince Angotti, the Tigers’ former head coach and the winningest coach in program history.

Morekas and Damon Lewis will again serve as co-hosts of Tiger Talk, airing every Thursday from 6 to 7 p.m. The first episode will air on Thursday, August 23, live from the Charles Village Pub in Towson. Most shows will once again be broadcast live from Bill Bateman’s Bistro in Towson. Follow TowsonTigers.com for the complete schedule of locations.

Zach Maskavich – last year's voice of Towson Women's Basketball and Towson Women's Lacrosse – will have an expanded role with the Towson Sports Network in 2012–13, becoming part of all football, men's basketball and men's lacrosse broadcasts as a contributor to pregame, postgame and halftime coverage. He will also provide in-game scoreboard updates.

This move from over-the-air radio to the digital format gives Towson Athletics the ability to make even more Department events available to supporters who cannot attend in person – especially through the mobile platforms.

By bringing the radio network in-house, the Department also will provide more educational opportunities and real-world professional experience to Towson students pursuing careers in broadcasting through internships with the Towson Sports Network.
