Tracking the 2011 Tigers:

CAPTAINS: For the first time in the history of the football program, the Tigers have six team captains this season ... The Tigers have two senior captains, offensive tackle Henry Glackin and defensive tackle Marcus Valentine ... They also have three junior co-captains, safety Jordan Dangerfield, quarterback Brian Potts and linebacker Danzel White ... Sophomore tackle Eric Pike is the first sophomore to serve as a team captain since Dan Dullea in 1974.

TACKLES LEAD OFFENSIVE LINE: The Tigers' offensive line will be led by two tackles, senior Henry Glackin and sophomore Eric Pike ... Ironically, the two tackles are serving as the team co-captains this season ... Glackin and Pike lead an experienced offensive line which also includes senior guard John Esposito ... Pike is only the fourth sophomore in school history to serve as team captain and the first since Dan Dullea in 1974.

DANGERFIELD EARNS RESPECT: Junior safety Jordan Dangerfield earned plenty of respect in his first season as a Tiger ... A transfer from Hofstra, Dangerfield played in all 11 games and led the team with 96 tackles ... He was second among all Colonial Athletic Association defensive backs in tackles per game ... Despite the fact that he has only been part of the team for a year, he was elected as one of the team captains.

FULL BACKFIELD: Junior Tremayne Dameron, who has rushed for 1,065 yards in his first two seasons and scored 13 touchdowns, has been the team's "workhorse" back ... While Dameron will play a prominent role on the team again this year, he will have a lot of help ... In addition to junior Dominique Booker and sophomore Nygee Carmichael, the Tigers have added a group of talented newcomers ... Sophomore Sterlin Phifer has transferred from Boston College while red-shirt freshman Trea Jones has joined the team from Colorado ... In addition, freshman Terrance West, a former standout at Northwestern High School, has also been impressive.

FRANK BELTRE LEADS TIGER DEFENSE: Junior defensive end Frank Beltre, a third team All-Colonial Athletic Association selection last season, is one of the Tiger defensive leaders this season ... A member of the Pre-Season All-CAA team, he made 85 tackles in 11 games and was ranked second among CAA defensive linemen in tackles.

QUARTERBACK BATTLE INCLUDES NEWCOMERS: Although sophomore Peter Athens has the most experience, there is still a battle for the starting quarterback position ...  Junior co-captain Brian Potts is also competing for the starting spot, along with sophomore Grant Enders, a transfer from Lackawanna Junior College ... Freshmen Price Litton and Connor Frazier are also in the mix ... Litton was an outstanding quarterback at Providence Day School in North Carolina ... Frazier earned All-State honors while leading Damascus to a 12-1 record as a senior.

JUSTIN HARRIS IS MR. VERSATILE: Senior Justin Harris has been a very versatile performer for the Tigers in his career ... For the first two-plus seasons, Justin was a reserve wide receiver and a special teams standout ... In the middle of the 2010 season, an injury to Ollie Thomas created a void at cornerback ... Justin turned in his #82 and picked up a #13 jersey and became the Tigers' starting corner back ... He enters the pre-season listed number one on the depth chart at cornerback.

WELCOME BACK: In 2009, linebacker Danzel White led the Tigers with 105 tackles in ten games ... After sitting out the 2010 campaign, he has returned and has emerged as a defensive force as middle linebacker ... He played so well during the Spring that he was elected as one of the Tiger co-captains.

HALL OF FAME ASSISTANT COACH: Defensive Line Coach Canute Curtis will be inducted into the Hall of Fame at his alma mater, West Virginia University, this season ... An All-American linebacker for the Mountaineers, he was the 1996 BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year ... He ranks first in the WVU record books in career sacks (34.5) and single season sacks (16.5) ... As a senior, he was second in the nation with 16.5 sacks for 121 yards ... A finalist for the Dick Butkus and Bronko Nagurski Awards, he made 67 tackles in 1996 while leading the Mountaineers to an 8-4 record and a Gator Bowl appearance ... He also played in the National Football League for six seasons ... He was a linebacker for the Cincinnati Bengals ...  He joined the Tiger coaching staff in 2009 when Rob Ambrose was named as the Tigers' coach.

UCONN SOUTH: With the addition of Leon Kinnard and Gerard Sheppard, the Tigers have two former University of Connecticut football players on the roster ... Both Kinnard and Sheppard are Baltimore area natives who earned All-State honors during their high school careers ... Kinnard was an All-State quarterback at Loyola High School while Sheppard earned All-State notice at McDonogh School.

ANOTHER TOUGH SCHEDULE: Once again, the Tigers will be playing a very difficult schedule this season ... As members of the Colonial Athletic Association, the Tigers compete in the most difficult FCS conference in the nation ... In 2011, Towson will play five of the top 16 teams in NCAA FCS, according to The Sports Network's pre-season poll ... On Sept. 10, the Tigers will host #14 Villanova ... On Oct. 8, Towson welcomes #16 Richmond to Unitas Stadium ... On Oct. 29, the Tigers entertain #5 Delaware and they face #10 New Hampshire in their home finale ... In addition, the Tigers travel to #3 William & Mary in October.
It should be noted that the Tigers will be hosting three teams that have won national championships in the last ten years - Delaware (2003), Richmond (2008) and Villanova (2009).
The Tigers will also face an NCAA FBS team for the fourth year in a row when they visit Maryland on Oct. 1 ... Towson's schedule also features home games against Morgan State and Colgate ... The Tigers are also slated to visit Old Dominion, Maine and Rhode Island.
