CAA Player of the Week Release

RICHMOND, Va. - Freshman tailback Terrance West of the nationally-ranked Tiger football team has been named as the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week for the week ending Oct. 8, it has been announced by CAA officials.

For West, this is the second time he has been honored as the CAA Rookie of the Week this season.

In the Tigers' 31-28 CAA victory over No. 14 Richmond on Saturday night, West ran for a career high 128 yards on 21 carries and he scored all four touchdowns for the Tigers.

"Our running backs and offensive line had a more focused week of practice and that focus carried forward to our game," said Towson Coach Rob Ambrose. "In relation to Terrance, as he learns more and more about our scheme and technique, he continues to get better and better."

Midway through the first quarter of the win over Richmond, he capped off a 72-yard, 10-play drive by giving the Tigers a 7-0 lead on a three-yard touchdown run. In the second quarter, he increased the Tigers' lead to 14-3 when he scored his second touchdown on a four-yard run, completing an 80-yard, 13-play drive.

On the opening play of the fourth quarter, West scored on a three-yard TD run, upping the lead to 21-13. After Richmond came back and tied the game at 21-21 with 10:37 remaining, West broke off a 25-yard touchdown run, giving the Tigers a 28-21 lead with 6:15 left in the game.

After the Spiders came back to tie the game at 28-28 with 2:33 left, West played a vital role in the Tigers' 54-yard drive for the game-winning field goal. He carried the ball five times for 38 yards and his five-yard run with four seconds left moved the ball to the 10-yard line. Moments later, D.J. Soven kicked a game-winning 27-yard field goal.

"I was just finishing plays," explained West. "The offensive line was creating large holes for me to run through. Then, I got some good blocking from the wide receivers."

West, who leads the CAA with nine touchdowns, was also honored as the CAA Rookie of the Week after scoring two touchdowns in a 31-10 win over No. 20 Villanova in September.

The Tigers' leading rusher, West has run for 302 yards on 54 carries in five games. Averaging 60.4 yards per game, he is ranked eighth in the CAA in rushing. He has helped the Tigers average 227.6 rushing yards per game, second in the CAA.

An All-Metro performer at Baltimore's Northwestern High School, West accumulated more than 4,700 total yards in his high school career. After a year at Fork Union Military Academy, he enrolled at Towson University during the spring semester and was one of the Tigers' most impressive newcomers in the 2011 Tiger Bowl.

The Tigers, who have been ranked among the NCAA FCS Top 25 the last three weeks, are now 4-1 on the season and 2-0 in the CAA. The Tigers travel to Old Dominion University on Saturday afternoon.
