RICHMOND, Va. - A pair of Towson University volleyball players have been honored as the Colonial Athletic Association announced its Volleyball Players of the Week. Junior setter Aubrey Kirven was named as the CAA Co-Offensive Player of the Week while freshman defensive specialist Paige Sekerak earned CAA Defensive Player of the Week honors.

"Aubrey and Paige really stepped their games up for us this weekend," said Coach Bruce Atkinson. "They have been working hard in practice and I believe are raising their own levels of expectation for themselves."

Kirven earns Co-Offensive Player of the Week honors for the second time this season as she shared the honor with Natalie Abel of James Madison. Kirven had a strong week running the Tiger offense as she averaged 14.86 assists per set in the Tigers' two wins and added six kills, 19 digs and four blocks. On Friday night against UNC Wilmington, she had 44 assists, seven digs and three kills. In the match against Georgia State, Kirven posted 60 assists and 12 digs for her seventh "double-double" performance of the season. Kirven became the first Tiger since Kim Snider in 2006 to record 60 or more assists in a match.

On the season, Kirven has 931 assists and is averaging 11.64 assists per set, which leads the CAA. She has also contributed 76 kills, 173 digs and 12 service aces.

Sekerak earns Defensive Player of the Week honors for the first time in her career after being named as the Rookie of the Week earlier this season. Sekerak averaged over five digs per set in a pair of Tiger victories this week. In the match against UNC Wilmington, she had 10 digs, a kill and an assist. On Saturday against Georgia State, Sekerak led a Tiger backline that recorded 90 digs. It was the first time since 2009 that the Tigers had 90 digs in a match. Sekerak contributed a season-high 28 digs and added four assists and a kill as the Tigers' earned the four-set win.

On the season, Sekerak has recorded 392 digs, averaging 4.40 digs per set. She also leads the team with 26 service aces and has 68 assists.

Kirven, Sekerak and the Tigers return to action on Saturday, Oct. 29, when they travel to Delaware for a 7 p.m. match.
