TOWSON, Md. - Following a pair of conference victories over the weekend, Towson’s Kaitlin Burke and Caroline Baker have been rewarded by the Colonial Athletic Association. Baker was named as the CAA Women’s Diver of the Week while Burke was named Co-CAA Women’s Swimmer of the Week, it has been announced by CAA officials. Burke will share the award with James Madison’s Catalina Mendieta.
The Tigers defeated both UNC Wilmington and Delaware in a POD meet at Burdick Pool Nov.5-6.
Burke, the reigning CAA Rookie of the Year, was impressive in the victories. The sophomore won the 100, 200 and 500-yard freestyle events and was also part of a Towson victory in the 400-yard medley relay. Her time of 4:55.53 in the 500-yard freestyle was over seven seconds faster than the next closest finisher.
“Kaitlin has been working hard this year and it was great to see her have some nice swims last weekend,” Towson Swimming Coach Pat Mead said. “I know that she has far faster swimming left in her and I am confident she will continue to improve and help our women’s team defend our CAA Championship.”
Baker won the one and three-meter dives in the POD meet, scoring 324.35 in the one-meter event and 326.75 in the three-meter dive.
“She was focused and very driven going into this meet,” Towson Diving Coach Maureen Mead said. “Having the home crowd behind her was a great scenario and she fed off of that and off of the support of her teammates.”
Towson will return to the pool Nov. 12 when the team travels to George Washington for a meet that begins at 1:00 p.m.
