STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - Even though second round play in the 36th annual Rutherford Intercollegiate had to be suspended the Tigers got through their rounds on the par 71 Penn State Blue Course but it was a struggle against very windy conditions.
A frost delay set tee times back to mid-morning Saturday, contributing to the suspension. The second round will be completed on Sunday morning before the 14-team field can begin the final round of the scheduled 54-hole event.
It was a frustrating day for the Tigers. Towson freshman DJ Honan was tied for second after carding an opening round 2-over par 73, his collegiate career low, but he ballooned to an 86 on his second 18 holes.
Sophomore Matt Fry shot 81-81, sophomore Joe Gunerman posted an 82-81. Senior Justin Koehler went 83-85. Junior Ken Jee shot 85-79 to post the only other 70's score for Towson.
Due to the suspension of play no other results were released by host Penn State.
