Andrew Parker Honored As CAA Player of the Week

RICHMOND, Va. – Junior catcher Andrew Parker of Towson University has been named as the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week for the week ending April 8, it has been announced by CAA officials.

A second team All-CAA selection as a sophomore, Parker broke out of an early season slump to lead the Tigers to a pair of wins over Old Dominion University.

In the series opener, Parker had three hits and scored three runs to lead the Tigers to a 14-10 win over the Monarchs. In the win, he smashed two home runs and had four runs batted in. They were his first two homers of the season.

In the second game of the series, Parker had two hits, including a double, in the Tigers’ 7-0 loss to ODU.

On Sunday, he had another three-hit game in the series finale. He went three-for-five with another home run and two runs batted in. With the Tigers trailing by 3-1 in the sixth inning, he belted a solo homer to cut the deficit to 3-2.

With the score tied in the bottom of the tenth inning, Parker lined a walk-off single to left, scoring sophomore Kurt Wertz from second base to give the Tigers a 4-3 victory.

In the series against Old Dominion, Parker batted .615 with three homers, six RBI’s, four runs scored and a double.

In four games last week, he batted .533 with a .588 on-base percentage and a 1.200 slugging percentage.

The Tigers, who are 15-16 overall, have a 9-6 record in CAA play and are tied for third place in the conference with George Mason and Delaware.

The Tigers return to action on Tuesday, hosting Bucknell at 3:00 p.m. at John B. Schuerholz Park.
