HARRISONBURG, Va. – Junior third baseman Zach Fisher of Towson University was selected to the Colonial Athletic Association Baseball Championship All-Tournament team, it was announced by CAA officials.
Fisher was selected to the all-tournament team at the conclusion of the CAA Tournament on Saturday evening.
Top-seeded UNC Wilmington captured the CAA championship by edging third-seeded Delaware in the championship game, 10-8. The Blue Hens started the day needing to beat UNCW twice to win the title. After winning the first game, 11-9, Delaware grabbed a 6-0 lead in the first inning before the Seahawks came from behind to win.
Sophomore first baseman Jimmy Yezzo of Delaware was named as the CAA Tournament’s Most Outstanding Player. He batted .517 in the tournament with 11 runs batted in. Pitcher Eric Young, second baseman D.J. Long and designated hitter Alex Maruri also represented the Blue Hens on the all-tournament team.
UNCW placed five players on the all-tournament team, including pitchers Mat Batts and Tyler McSwain, outfielders Thomas Pope and Tyler Molinaro and third baseman Matt Campbell.
Along with Fisher, outfielder Zack Helgeson of George Mason and Brent Mikionis of Virginia Commonwealth rounded out the all-tournament team.
In the Tigers’ three tournament games, Fisher batted .500 with eight hits in 16 at bats. He scored five runs and had a double, a triple and a home run. He also drove in six runs and had a .533 on-base percentage. In addition, he had a 1.000 fielding percentage with four putouts and eight assists.
Fisher went three-for-six with a run scored and one RBI in the Tigers’ CAA Tournament opener, a heart-breaking 8-7 loss to Delaware in 12 innings. In Towson’s 16-8 victory over George Mason in the second round, Fisher went three-for-six again. He had a double and a triple, scored two runs with two runs batted in. He went two-for-four in a loss to Virginia Commonwealth that ended the Tigers’ season. He belted a three-run homer and scored a pair of runs.
Fisher finished the season as the Tigers’ top hitter with a .333 batting average. A transfer from Maryland, he had 10 doubles, three triples, two homers and 27 runs batted in. He also scored 25 runs and had a .965 fielding percentage.
The Tigers ended their season with a 27-31 record. Towson finished fifth in the CAA with a 15-15 record, earning their first CAA Tournament berth since 2008.
