No. 15 – Aug. 20, 2011 - Women’s Soccer vs. Loyola – It was the first game of the year as the Tigers faced their cross town rival, the Greyhounds. The Tigers entered their home opener having lost each of their previous 11 contests against Loyola. A goal in each half and some strong goaltending proved to be the difference as the Tigers posted a 2-0 victory. To read the full story, click here.
No. 14 – Oct. 28 & 30, 2011 – Field Hockey vs. Hofstra and Northeastern – The Tigers entered the final weekend of the regular season needing a pair of victories to have a shot at getting into the CAA Tournament for the first time since the 2008 season. Towson got the weekend off to a strong start with a 3-0 shutout of Hofstra. To read the Hofstra recap, click here. In the regular season finale against No. 14 Northeastern, one goal would prove to be the difference as the Tigers earned a hard fought 1-0 victory. To read the Northeastern recap, click here.
No. 13 – Mar. 16, 2012 – Gymnastics vs. George Washington, Penn and Yale – On Senior Night, the Tigers’ five seniors helped the team turn in its best performance since the 2008 season. Towson posted a 194.800 as senior Kacy Cantanzaro won two individual events and the all-around title. To read the full recap from the meet, click here.
No. 12 – On Seven Occasions – Women’s Basketball vs. various opponents – One thing fans learned throughout the women’s basketball season was to not count the Tigers out until the final buzzer sounded. On seven occasions, the Tigers got the game-winning or game-tying bucket in the final minute of play. Perhaps none was bigger than a 70-68 overtime win against George Mason on Feb. 16. The two teams battled through 12 ties in the game before the Tigers got the game-winner with two seconds left in overtime. No. 11 – Nov. 12, 2011 – Football vs. New Hampshire – In the regular season home finale in a match-up between two first place teams, freshman Terrance West made sure Tiger fans went home happy. West exploded for 261 yards and four touchdowns in a 56-42 win over the Wildcats. West’s big day eventually set the stage for the Tigers’ winning their first CAA title.
