TOWSON, Md. - Incoming freshman gymnasts Abby Griswold, Katie Sassa and Lydia Thompson did very well in post-season competition last month.
Griswold (right) , a native of Monson, Mass., competed at the Junior Olympic Nationals in Hampton, Va. A product of Daggett Gymnastics Club in Massachusetts, Griswold finished 37th in the all-around competition with a 36.525 score. She had a 9.075 on vault, a 9.025 on bars, a 9.05 on beam and a 9.375 score on the floor exercise.
Competing for Silvia's Gymnastics Club in Pennsylvania, Sassa (left) earned a 37.375 all-around score to finish 20th at Junior Olympic Nationals. A resident of Havre de Grace, Md., she also finished 1
0th on vault (9.55) and had a 9.325 on bars, a 9.025 on beam and a 9.475 on floor exercise.
A third member of the incoming freshman class, Thompson competed at the National Invitational Meet and did very well. A product of Harford Gymnastics Club, she finished seventh in the all-around with a 36.725 score. She also took fourth place on vault (9.4) and fifth on floor (9.3).
Thompson also did very at the Maryland State Meet. She won the all-around with a career high 37.25 score and also place first on floor (9.50).
"We're very pleased with the way these young ladies are developing," said Towson Coach Vicki Chliszczyk. "They did well in high-level meets. We are looking forward to the time when they will join us in the fall."
