RICHMOND, Va. – The Towson University football team, which won the 2011 Colonial Athletic Association championship, will make five television appearances as part of the CAA’s 2012 television package that includes games on the NBC Sports Network and Comcast SportsNet Regional.
The CAA will have six games aired nationally on the NBC Sports Network and 12 games on Comcast SportsNet Regional.
The Tigers, who were ranked ninth in NCAA FCS last season with a 9-3 record, will have five of their eight CAA games televised. Three of their CAA games will be broadcast on the NBC Sports Network while two other contests will be televised on Comcast SportsNet Regional.
The NBC Sports Network will televise the Tigers’ CAA games against William and Mary, James Madison and Delaware. Towson’s road games at Villanova and New Hampshire will be broadcast by Comcast SportsNet Regional.
Last year, Towson had five games televised, including the NCAA FCS playoff game against Lehigh which was handled by ESPN3. The Tigers’ games against Morgan State, Maryland, Delaware and Maine were also televised.
The Tigers’ five scheduled television appearances are the most they’ve had since the 2007 season when Towson had six games televised.
The Tigers make their NBC Sports Network debut on Saturday, September 15 when they host William and Mary in their CAA opener at Johnny Unitas® Stadium at 12 noon. Last season, Towson pulled out a 38-27 victory over the Tribe in Williamsburg when William and Mary was ranked 14th in the nation.
On Saturday, October 6, the Tigers will visit James Madison University in an important CAA contest. The Towson-JMU game is set for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff and will be televised by the NBC Sports Network.
When the Tigers visit Villanova in a CAA game on Saturday, October 27, the contest will be televised by the Comcast SportsNet. The Tigers and Villanova will kick off at 3:30 p.m.
The NBC Sports Network will also televise the Tigers’ CAA game at Delaware on Saturday, November 3 at 12 noon. Last year, Delaware handed the Tigers their lone CAA loss of the season. The Blue Hens trimmed the Tigers, 35-30.
On Saturday, November 17, the Tigers’ regular season finale at New Hampshire will also be televised by the Comcast Sports Network. The Tigers and the Wildcats, who both advanced to the NCAA FCS playoffs last year, are scheduled for a 12 noon kickoff in Durham, N.H. Last season, the Tigers outlasted the Wildcats, 56-42, in a late-season contest that helped the Tigers win the CAA championship.
Additional Tiger football games could be added to the television schedule in later weeks.
