Good morning Tiger Nation, and welcome to the Monday edition of the Morning Roar.
I hope that you all got a chance to catch episode 2 of #upROAR 2012: The Towson Tiger Football Story. Let me just say that Jess Atkinson and his team at 3 Penny Films did another incredible job with this show, it is a must watch for all of Tiger Nation.
If you happened to miss it don’t worry. We will have the full episiode available for you on towsontigers.com shortly. But let us know what you thought of the show on twitter using #upROAR in your tweet.
@Towson_VB has named captains for the 2012 season. Senior Aubrey Kirven and junior Katy Buck will be leading the team. The Tigers are playing in their last season inside the Towson Center before they move into their new home, the Tiger Arena for the 2013 season. Check out the awesome video--attached to story-- starring Director of Photographic Services, Kanji Takeno. It is a very fun video!
@Towson_MSOC has also named captains for the 2012 season, Junior midfielder Christian Höfer and sophomore defender Daniel Grundei.
Also want to wish a congratulations to Michael LaMonica for being named a full-time assistant coach for @Towson_WLAX.
Let’s Unleash the Roar
@Towson_WSOC dropped their second straight game on the road yesterday when they fell to Valparaiso 1-0. Despite the result sophomore keeper Erin Quinn looked strong in the goal, the only score she gave up was a penalty kick in the 78th minute.
@Towson_FB held their second scrimmage of the season on Saturday, and it was a very successful, because nobody got hurt. Head Coach, Rob Ambrose (@Coach_Ambrose) said this on twitter after the scrimmage “Another 100 rep healthy scrimmage... We put all these puzzle pieces together the right way and stay healthy... We might just have something”
Also, after the scrimmage Towson Sports Network’s Dayne Buttafuoco caught up with Coach Ambrose in what I would classify as a light hearted interview. For anyone that knows Coach Ambrose, that must mean that he was pleased with the team's performance in the scrimmage.
As for the scrimmage itself, there were good plays from both sides of the ball. The aerial attack looked very promising. Senior Tom Ryan came up with some big catches, and junior Spencer Wilkins continued his strong camp.
Another big play came from reserve running back Nygee Carmichael who hit a nice hole and showed off his burners before getting tackled at the 1 yard line.
After what I have seen from the Tigers this far in pre-season--in the words of the band Trapt-- I feel a little Headstrong, like they could take on anyone.
@Towson_FB will return to the practice field on Monday.
A Look Outside Towson
The Saints Pro-Bowl and Super Bowl Champion Left Tackle Jermon Bushrod (Towson class of ‘07) celebrated his 28th birthday yesterday, so be sure to give him a big Tiger Nation Happy Birthday. One of his birthday wishes was to get more followers on twitter, so make sure you follow him after you wish him a happy birthday @j_bushrod7475.
Countdown to Kent State
We are just 10 days away from football games that count, no more scrimmages, the games will actually mean something. I don’t know about the rest of you but the anticipation is killing me.
Just like Towson, Kent State held an inter-squad scrimmage on Saturday, but Kent State did theirs a little different than Towson. Every year Kent State holds a “jersey scrimmage” where the offense battles the defense for the right to wear blue practice uniforms for the year.
Just like in 2011 the defense defeated the offense and will retain the right wear the blue practice jerseys for the 2012 season.
Most eyes were on the quarterback battle, coach Darrell Hazell is supposed to have a starter named after this scrimmage. He likely already knows who it is, but won’t make an official announcement until later today.
Thanks for reading the Morning Roar, be sure to check back the same time tomorrow for more. In the meantime be sure to follow me on twitter @ZachMaskavich.
