"Erin [Quinn] made a couple really nice saves that kept us in the game," said Head Coach Greg Paynter. "We were slow to start in the first half. Credit to [Valparaiso], they played really well today. We couldn't solve their central midfield in first half. But we made some adjustments in the second and had a couple good opportunities."
Towson struggled offensively in the first half and didn't generate an attempt on goal. Quinn made an acrobatic save at 40:51, leaping and punching over the bar a shot by Valparaiso's Luisa Desario. The Crusaders controlled possession for much of the first frame and held a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.
The Tigers picked up steam in the second half, and Quinn continued her efforts in goal when she dove to her left to save Sarah Ludwig's header at 55:36. However, Valparaiso's Trisha Wladecki tallied the game's only goal when she scored from the spot at 78:34.
Valparaiso out-shot Towson 14-4, and Quinn made five saves to two from Kristen Manski.
Next up, Towson travels to Mount St. Mary's on Friday, August 24 to face The Mount at 7 p.m.
