LORTON, Va. - Freshman Ryan Siegler shot a 73 during the third and final round of the CHAMPS/Patriot Intercollegiate Sunday, leading the Towson University men's golf team to a seventh place finish.
The University of Missouri won the tournament in impressive fashion with a total team score of 849, 24 strokes ahead of second-place finisher Penn. Villanova (874), Hofstra (877) and Delaware (880) rounded out the Top 5 teams, with the Tigers finishing in seventh with a three-round score of 896.
Junior Joe Gunerman proved to be Towson's most consistent performer, finishing 26th overall with a 222. Gunerman didn't shoot over 75 in any round. Matt Fry, the Tigers two-round leader, carded a 78 on the final day of play to finish 29th.
Siegler's impressive final round placed him tied with Fry for 29th overall with a 223. Freshman Alex Church shot 231 and classmate Cas Dickerson ended with a 232.
The Tigers return to action on October 7 at the Binghamton Fall Invitational, held at The Links at Hiawatha in Apalachin, N.Y.
