HUDSON VALLEY, N.Y. - Former Tiger righthander Charlie Cononie earned the first victory of his professional career when he pitched three shutout innings in relief against the Aberdeen Ironbirds in the opening game of a doubleheader on Friday night.
Cononie combined on a two-hit shutout with Ryan Carpenter as the Renegades edged Aberdeen, 3-0. Hudson Valley also won the nightcap, 5-4.
Cononie entered a scoreless game and earned the win by pitching three scoreless innings. He allowed one hit and walked two. He also struck out five as he evened his record at 1-1.
In 16 appearances for Hudson Valley, Cononie is 1-1 with a 2.43 E.R.A. He has six saves and has walked only eight batters in 29.2 innings. He also has 27 strikeouts.
Cononie was a 24th round draft pick by Tampa Bay in June.
