Good Morning, Tiger Nation. I am Simon The Heavyweight and it's time to Wake Up on the Strong Side.
-- Congrats Chunk
King George High School letter-winner in three sports, Towson Tiger standout, All A-10 offensive lineman, fourth-round NFL draft selection, Super Bowl Champion and now Pro Bowler. Few can boast this resume, but Jermon Bushrod was named to his first ever Pro Bowl, as it was announced Tuesday evening. Bushrod is the last Tiger to have been drafted into the NFL and has made his bones protecting the blind side of Drew Brees, one of the league's most prolific quarterbacks.
One of my first assignments freshman year of college was to cover Bushrod's pro day. Where the massive left tackle displayed athleticism with an unofficial 4.97-second, forty-yard dash and also technical mastery during technique drills. Let's not forget, Bushrod also protected the blindside of one of Towson's greatest passers Sean Schaefer.
-- 5 Spot of 2011
With 5 days left in the 2011 calendar year, I decided I want to recap and recount the Top Towson stories from 2011. At number five: Shawn Nadelen's hiring kicked off the list.
Number 4 was originally decided over the weekend, but in light of Tuesday's Pro Bowl Selection of Jermon Bushrod, I'm going to say it's tied with the previously determined number four story.
On May 10, Towson Athletics broke ground on the future site of the Tiger Arena.
The $68 million dollar venue will be key in the Tigers' chase to become a contender in the best mid-major hoops conference in the country. Towson Men's hoops has struggled the last few years in the stout CAA, but it helps having an athletic director fresh out of the Big East to put some emphasis on building a contending hoops program.
In attendance were Towson alums Gary Neal of the San Antonio Spurs, Sportscaster and Voice of the Ravens Gerry Sandusky (Yes, Gerry with a G) of WBAL, and others.
