TOWSON, Md. – Former Towson men’s soccer player Marco Mangione has signed a professional contract to play in Portugal.
Mangione will suit up for GD Tourizense of the Segunda Divisao. The team has 20 games remaining this season.
A two-week tryout session was held after which Mangione was offered the contract.
“Marco is a talented player with big potential,” Pedro Goncalves of Sport Consult Portugal Agency said in a statement. “He really impressed us during the first week of training. We hope he will develop into a great professional player.”
Mangione, a midfielder who played for the Tigers from 2007-10, scored 20 career goals in 64 games. He ranked second in the Colonial Athletic Association during his senior season with 31 points, earning first team all-CAA honors. He finished his career with eight game-winning goals and was a perfect 5-for-5 in penalty kicks.
