TOWSON, Md. – On Thursday night at the Towson Center, the student-athletes of Towson University hosted the fourth annual “Tigers Got Talent” competition to raise money for the “Cool Kids Campaign”, a local charitable foundation that raises money for kids with cancer.
The Tiger student-athletes raised $1,700 for the “Cool Kids Campaign." The event was sponsored by Towson’s Student Government Association and the Campus Activities Board.
For a $5 donation, those in attendance were treated to a variety of acts by current student-athletes. Acts included singing and dancing performances, comedy skits and poetry reading.
Judges for the event included women’s
soccer coach Greg Paynter, men’s lacrosse assistant Dan Cocchi and Kilee Taflinger, a member of the Tigers' Strength and Conditioning staff.
The Tiger football team, which performed a skit that was a parody of a dating game show, took first place in the competition, thanks to the talents of featured contestant Anthonita Davis (aka Anthony Davis) and emcee Drew Bellamy.
Members of the gymnastics team finished second in the competition after performing a dance routine.
“Tigers Got Talent” began as an initiative by the student-athlete group PAWS (Proud Athletes Who Serve) in 2009. Each year, the proceeds from the event go to a different organization.
