FAIRFAX, Va. - The Tigers concluded the Colonial Athletic Association Championships Saturday with 60.5 points in the meet, placing seventh. James Madison won the meet with 132 points while Virginia Commonwealth finished second and Georgia State third.

The Tigers finished one place above William & Mary, something that the team had targeted coming into the meet.

"It was about what I expected," Towson head coach Roger Erricker said. "We are in a very tough conference."

Katie Salke and Jessica Cooke excelled in the heptathlon for the Tigers Saturday. Salke won the 100-meter hurdles with the only time under 15 seconds among participants, clocking in at 14.77 seconds. Cooke was not far behind with her time of 15.43 seconds placing her third.

Salke also finished second in the long jump (5.15 meters), and second in the 200-meter dash (26.49 seconds) en route to a fourth place finish in the heptathlon with 4,010 points.

Cooke was even more impressive, finishing second in the high jump (1.60 meters) and fourth in the long jump (5.06 meters). Her 4,350 points in the heptathlon event placed her third overall and earned the Tigers six points. 

Towson freshman Emily Wenger qualified for the ECAC Championship meet with a third place finish in the 400-meter hurdles, earning six points for the Tigers with a time of 1:01.96.

Senior thrower Shannel Shivers finished seventh in the shot put with a throw of 12.68 meters, getting the Tigers two points in the process.

The quartet of Wenger, Evan Campbell, Shemika Martin and Leslie Miles earned two points for the Tigers in the 4x400 relay, finishing with a time of 3:54.23.

Campbell also earned 1.5 points in the high jump for the Tigers and ran in the 400-meter dash for the Tigers, finishing with a time of 57.96.

Senior Shianna Smith, Shivers and Melissa Shirley finished 10th, 11th, and 12th respectively, in the discus event for Towson. Smith led the way with a toss of 40.49 meters.
