Good morning Tiger Nation, I’m Zach Maskavich and this is the Morning Roar.

Tiger fans, here is your chance to get up close and personal with the men’s and women’s basketball teams. The coaching staff and players of both teams are putting on a “Basketball 101” clinic on Monday, Oct. 8. It sounds like a lot of fun (plus there are some really cool perks for attending). So be sure to check it out!

While you are there you will get the opportunity to meet a member of the @Towson_MBB team, graduate student Bryan Blackstone. He has an incredible story about how he finally made it on the court for the Tigers.

My man, and Towson Alum, Simon Habtemariam wrote a great piece about the success of the @Towson_FB team and what it will take to repeat the magic of last year.

Let’s Unleash the Roar

@Towson_VB is coming off the 2011 season in which it finished 23-9. Heading into this season, the Tigers are picked to finish fourth in the CAA.

As I said in yesterday’s post, I had a chance to catch up with 2011 Jerry Rice Award winner (FCS Freshman of the Year) Terrance West after practice.

@Towson_FB had a very special guest last night as Super Bowl Champion, Grey Cup Champion, and member of the Baltimore Stallions and Ravens, OJ Brigance (@OJBrigance) spoke to the team.

Head Coach, Rob Ambrose (@Coach_Ambrose) tweeted this last night after Brigance spoke to the team: “Great speakers Saturday night in Colonel Art Athens and former Raven OJ Brigance. Powerful messages for our young men.”

A Look Outside Towson

Old Dominion’s defense ranked 70th or below in the three major defensive categories last season. The Monarchs were 72nd in scoring, 81st in yards allowed and 104th in passing defense. Despite those numbers, ODU still managed to finish the year with a 10-3 record. The Tigers were the only team to finish above them in the CAA. This year it looks as though the Monarchs have improved their defense.

Villanova recently held their media day, where a lot of the emphasis was on sophomore quarterback
Chris Polony, who won the starting job last year and earned the right to become the starter for the Wildcats in 2012.

Countdown to Kent State

Kent State Head Coach Darrell Hazell did an interview yesterday with Blogtalkradio.com in which he touched on many things about the upcoming season.

As I have been telling you, Kent State is in the midst of a quarterback controversy and coach Hazell said that he hopes to have a decision reached by Sunday.

“I’ll be glad when we make a decision,” Hazell said. “It’s a very important decision. We are going to take our time and make the right one. We need a trigger man to win championships. We are looking for a guy to protect the football and move the ball down the field. That is all we are looking for.”

I will be keeping an eye on the Flashes and letting everyone know if one quarterback starts to pull away.

Thanks for reading another edition of the Morning Roar and be sure to check back at the same time tomorrow. In the meantime, be sure to follow me on twitter - @ZachMaskavich.
