TOWSON, Md. - The Tiger field hockey team inched closer to the start of the regular season as they scrimmaged Robert Morris on Friday afternoon.
"I thought today was a good step towards the start of the season," said Coach Michelle Webber. "We got a lot of people some playing time and got a chance to work through different situations."
The Tigers held a 5-4 lead at the end of regulation after a strong first half. Towson held a 3-0 lead at halftime after Heather Jenney and Kasie Nurko scored two of the three goals. After Robert Morris scored the first two goals of the second half, the Tigers responded with a pair of goals including a penalty stroke from Nurko. Robert Morris scored the final two goals of the second half to make it a 5-4 game.
At the end of regulation, the teams played 15 minutes of 7-on-7 overtime but neither team scored. One of the new rules in field hockey says that if both teams are tied after overtime, the teams then go to a shootout where the players have eight seconds to go one-on-one with the goalie. Both teams practiced that for several minutes.
Towson opens the regular season on Friday, August 24 at Sacred Heart.
