TOWSON, Md. - Olakunle Banjo scored two goals to lead the Towson Tigers to a 2-1 win over the Temple Owls in a scrimmage held Saturday evening at the Tiger Soccer Complex.
Banjo, a junior forward who was a third team All-Colonial Athletic Association pick last season, scored a goal in each half to lead the offensive charge. His goal off a pretty feed from Ram Gilad gave Towson a 1-0 advantage with just over five minutes remaining in the first half.
Temple responded quickly after halftime, when a pass from Jake Lister put Chas Wilson behind the Towson defense and gave him a clear one-on-one with Towson goalie Nathan Moran. Wilson deposited the ball in the back of the net to tie the game 1-1 at the 45:48 mark of the game.
Banjo scored the game-winning goal in the 74th minute when he used a burst of speed to emerge from the corner of the field and place a shot past Temple's Bobby Rosato and give the Tigers the lead for good.
"Winning is a good feeling and a good habit," Towson Coach Frank Olszewski said. "There is some competition right now. What combinations are going to give us the best attack?Where are we going to be strongest defensively? Those are the types of things you look for on a day like today."
The Tigers officially open the season Friday, August 24 against the Monmouth Hawks at 5:00 p.m. at the Tiger Soccer Complex.
