TOWSON, Md. - The Tiger men's soccer team hosts Monmouth University at 5 p.m. Friday evening to highlight the opening weekend of competition for many of Towson's athletic teams.
Junior forward Olakunle Banjo leads the Tigers against then Hawks after scoring four goals in 2011. Banjo is a Preseason All-Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) selection. Christian Höfer also returns after leading the team last season with five goals and 11 pionts.
The women's soccer team continues play Friday night at Mount St. Mary's (7 p.m. start) after two games on a midwest road trip. Goalkeeper Erin Quinn has been fantastic in goal for the Tigers over the first two contests, recording 11 saves and posting a .786 save percentage.
The volleyball team begins their quest for another CAA playoff berth Friday for the Battle of the Bay tournament, hosted by Morgan State. Reigning CAA Player of the Year Katy Buck returns to lead a squad that won 23 matches a year ago. Ten other letter winners return for coach Bruce Atkinson, who was named the 2011 CAA Volleyball Coach of the Year. The Tigers begin Friday by facing UMBC at noon.
Head coach Michelle Webber will lead the Tiger field hockey program into a pair of weekend games, beginning on the road at Sacred Heart Friday at noon. After scoring five goals last season, Kasie Nurko and the Tigers will then play Quinnipiac Sunday, also beginning at noon.
