Matt (Towson student):

Question: With all the renovations made, being made to the Towson Center, is the capacity being increased past the current 5,000 seats?  Is seating being improved?

Answer:  Matt, we are still working on the specifics of the renovation, but I don’t believe the capacity will change significantly. We are not planning to raise the roof. The seating, and other arena amenities like concessions, restrooms and ticket operations, will be significantly improved. I look forward to sharing our ideas as the project becomes more defined. The Towson Center will be an outstanding place to watch a college basketball game!

Thomas (student-athlete parent):

Question: Although the Tigers men’s soccer team was seeded 15th and received a first-round bye in the NCAA Tournament, it was the only seeded team not to be assured of a home game and home field advantage in the second round.  It seems the University did not take the needed steps to secure the home game. Why?

Answer: Tom, when Towson submitted its bid to serve as a host site for the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship in early October, we indicated our desire to host a first-round game. As the team's ranking improved during the season, we should have updated our bid to include the second and third round, but did not. Therefore, the NCAA was planning to award the second round to Connecticut, if the Huskies win the first-round. Fortunately for all of us, Fairfield won. Since Fairfield did not submit a bid to host the second round either, we were awarded the home site as the higher seed. The win over Fairfield on campus was one of my best days at Towson! I was so pleased that it was conducted on campus. Through all the discussions about the issue, Coach Frank Olszewski and the team took the issue in stride. I was never more proud!

Rich (Faculty/Fan):

Question: What are you planning to do to improve the look and feel of Unitas Stadium?  The new fieldturf (hopefully with logos and graphics) will help brighten the place up.  And the new scoreboard, too.  But right now, the place is grey and cold and lacks the collegiate atmosphere. Of course, way more fans would help, too!

Answer: Rich, we are planning to do all of the above. The Field Turf is planned for May/June. Daktronics has entered the corporate market place and is selling the opportunities necessary to commit to the video board. I am hopeful the project will work. We have plans in place to increase attendance, hopefully clad in black and gold. I would also like to look at additions to the stadium to celebrate our tradition and bring out the college colors. I agree that we need more black and gold in the stadium. It’s the best place in our conference to watch a college football game. With the help of our fans and community, we look forward to making it the best football atmosphere in the league as well!

Tom (Former Professor):

Question: How about reinstating men’s tennis? We have the courts and a coach!  The CAA is one of the strongest tennis conferences in the country & Towson is the only university without a men’s team! It is not an expensive sport and we have a lot of anxious alums in the area.

Answer: Tom, you forget to mention that we have a great history and tradition in men’s tennis as well. Honestly, my efforts so far have been focused on providing the resources for the 20 sports that we currently sponsor. We have challenged our coaches and staff to provide the best student-athlete experience in the CAA. This will require additional resources, and I’m working daily on ways to find that funding.
