Starting his second season as a student assistant coach, Tony Zaccarelli suffered a career-ending injury two years ago.
A "red-shirt" freshman in 2009, the LaPlata, Md. native played in seven games and made three starts at tight end. After suffering an injury in the seventh game of the year, he missed the rest of the season.
A product of Westlake High School, Zaccarelli started against Coastal Carolina, Morgan State and New Hampshire. He caught one pass for eight yards and scored a touchdown in an unusual fashion at Morgan. When Dave Newsom caught a long pass and fumbled at the Morgan one-yard line, Zaccarelli fell on the ball in the end zone for a touchdown.
An honorable mention All-State selection at Westlake, he played for his father, Coach Dominic Zaccarelli. A two-time All-Charles County selection, he helped the Wolverines post a 10-2 record as a senior.
The son of Dominic and Carol Zaccarelli, he is a Criminal Justice major.
