HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. - The Tigers held a one-stroke lead after the second round but couldn't hold off a hot-shooting Eastern Kentucky crew on the final 18 holes and settled for runner up in the F&M Bank Austin Peay Invitational held on the 6,841-yard The Links At Novadell Tuesday afternoon.

"It's disappointing not to have won it but we came in second out of 17 teams," said coach Brian Yaniger. "We're very close to where we want to be. This was a very good finish in a tough field."

Towson shot 1-under as a team for the tournament. Eastern Kentucky was 4-under to take the team trophy by three strokes.

It was Towson's third top five finish of the fall and the fourth time the Tigers have finished among the top 10.

Junior Nyahsa Mauchaza led the way, placing second in the individual standings with a 7-under par 209 (71-68-70) which was a stroke off his career best for a 54-hole event. He finished a stroke behind medalist Jakob Ziegler of Oakland University who carded a 208.

Senior Chris Scialo tied for 10th with a 1-under par 215 (75-68-72). Scialo and Mauchaza each posted 68's in the second round to card Towson's low score for the event.

Junior John Duthie tied for 25th with a 3-over par 219. Right behind him and tied for 35th was freshman Johnny Hayes with a 220. Junior Pat Hinch tied for 71st with a 230.

Towson concludes the fall portion of its 2009-10 schedule next week when the Tigers travel to Kitty Hawk, N.C. for the Seascape Invitational hosted by Old Dominion.
