TOWSON, Md. – Sophomore forward Liam Maloney scored a goal and added an assist as the Tigers (7-9-0, 4-6-0) snapped a two-game losing streak with a 2-1 Colonial Athletic Association victory over Georgia State University (4-9-1, 2-8-0) in their home finale at the Towson Center Soccer Complex on Sunday afternoon.

Maloney, who leads the team with nine goals and four assists, scored the game-winning goal with 48 seconds remaining for his third game-winning goal of the year.

“I thought we played well today, especially in the second half,” Maloney said. “We had a lot of scoring chances that we didn’t convert. It’s always nice to get the winning goal, especially on Senior Day for the guys who are playing their last game here.”

The Tigers took a quick 1-0 lead just 30 seconds into the match when senior forward Tommy Appel-Schumacher took passes from Maloney and junior midfielder Marco Mangione and scored on a breakaway for his third goal of the year.

The Tigers held the one-goal advantage until the 32nd minute when senior forward Stephan Minyono converted a pass from freshman Moosah Dowlatabadi to tie the game.

The game remained tied until the 90th minute when junior defender Roslin Nzokou sent a long pass to Maloney, who dribbled into the box and scored on a shot to the far post to give Towson a 2-1 lead.

“Any time you can get a win, it’s a good thing,” Towson Coach Frank Olszewski said. “The team had to come together today and overcome some very tough conditions.”

One of four seniors playing in their final home game, senior goalkeeper Frank Fregoso made two saves en route to earning the first victory of his career.

“Frank deserves a lot of credit,” Coach Olszewski said. “He deserved a chance to play in the games this week and played well. For him to get a win on Senior Day in his final game on our field is a highlight for him and I am glad he was able to do that.”

Freshman goalkeeper Vincent Foermer made seven saves in a losing effort for the Panthers, who dropped their fourth straight game.

The Tigers outshot Georgia State by a 19-12 margin.

The Tigers will end the regular season on Saturday night when they travel to James Madison for a 7 p.m. game against the Dukes. Meanwhile, Georgia State will travel to Delaware on Tuesday afternoon for a 3 p.m. CAA game against the Blue Hens.
