Tigers Split Double Dual Meet Against Maryland and UMBC

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Junior Meredith Budner won a pair of individual events to lead the Tigers to a split of their double dual meet against the University of Maryland and UMBC at the Eppley Recreation Center on Saturday afternoon.

Now 8-1 on the season, the Tigers defeated the Retrievers by a 214.50-85.50 margin. However, the Tigers had their streak of 13 straight dual meet victories snapped by the host Terrapins with a 184.50-115.50 setback.

Budner won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:50.28 before taking first place in the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:06.90. She also finished second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 50.72 seconds.

Senior Kathryne Chalikis finished first in the 50-yard freestyle by completing the event in 24.18 seconds.

Junior Kayla Zeller led the Tigers to a win in the 1000-yard freestyle by finishing first with a time of 10:13.09 while junior Megen Donovan was third in the event by completing the event in 10:22.30. Zeller also turned in a third place effort in the 500-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 5:00.87.

Sophomore Cari Czarnecki led the Tigers' effort in the 100-yard breaststroke by placing first with a time of 1:04.51 while senior Ivy Wimberley was third in the event with a time of 1:06.11. Czarnecki also finished in second place in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:21.84.  

Junior Brooke Golden placed second in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:02.63 while sophomore Maggie Macedonia finished third in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:07.37. Golden also had a second-place effort in the 500-yard freestyle by completing the event in 4:59.87 and finished third in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 58.00 seconds.

Sophomore Caroline Baker led the Tigers in the diving events on Saturday, finishing third in both events. She scored 221.90 points in the three-meter event and tallied 233.75 points in the one-meter event.

The Tigers also placed second in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:31.00.

The Tigers will return to the Eppley Recreation Center next week for the Maryland Invitational, which begins on Wednesday.
