"Our treasured, long-standing tradition with Towson Football and Turtle Derby is integral in making this annual event a success. The players are consistently helpful in transporting patients who would not otherwise be able to come to the event, along with brightening the spirits of all who are there with their playful participation" commented Annie Woods Beatson, Child Life TV & Special Events Coordinator.
The 79th Annual Turtle Derby was hosted by first-year Johns Hopkins Medical students, with help from Radiography students. Proceeds generated from the event go to the Child Life and Perkins Day Care Center, a Johns Hopkins affiliate in East Baltimore.
Derby proceeds were drawn from the sale of "chances," good-natured wagers by individuals, groups and medical departments and divisions in which they could name and "race" turtles. This year's distinguished winner out of nearly 200 competitors was "Lightning Fred," sponsored by Johns Hopkins home care.2010 Towson Football season tickets are on sale now and may be purchased on TowsonTigers.com or by calling 410-704-2244.
