TOWSON, Md. - Although a large group of members of the Baltimore Ravens National Football League team has scheduled unofficial practice sessions at Minnegan Field at Johnny Unitas® Stadium next week, the workout sessions are closed and not open to the public.
The workout sessions, which have been organized by veteran wide receiver Derrick Mason, will be held from Tuesday, May 24 to Thursday, May 26.
Since these dates conflict with the University's commencement exercises, the sessions are closed to the public. Automobiles will not be allowed near the Towson Center or Unitas Stadium without the proper commencement parking credentials.
Due to the NFL lockout, players are not allowed to work out at team facilities. Like the Ravens, several other NFL teams, like the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants, have organized workouts on their own.
Rob Ambrose, the Tigers' third-year head coach, is very happy that the University and his football program can help out.
"The Baltimore Ravens are our city's professional football team and a rallying point for pride in our state," he says. "The greatness and the brotherhood of the game of football know no division. Anything we can do to help the Ravens and by proxy, the state of Maryland, we will do. It is an honor."
Led by Mason, a 15-year veteran who has caught 924 passes for 11,891 yards and 66 touchdowns in his career, the Ravens will train in the Tigers' weight room each day. They will also participate in on-field conditioning in Unitas Stadium.
"Rob Ambrose is such an amazing person to work with us on this," says Mason. "As a top-notch head coach, he really understands what we need to accomplish and is doing everything he can to help us get that done.
"I can't thank Towson University enough for the hand they've extended to us," he said. "This is already turning out to be a great partnership!"
MEDIA ADVISORY: The work-out sessions will also be closed to the media on Wednesday, May 25 and Thursday, May 26. The work-out session on Tuesday, May 24 will be open to the media.
