TOWSON, Md. - Most of the game times for the 2011 Towson University football schedule have been set as the Tigers will play five of their six home games under the lights at Johnny Unitas® Stadium.
All game times are tentative and subject to change.
For the first time since 2005, the Tigers will play their first three games at home. They will also host four of their first five games at Johnny Unitas® Stadium.
The Tigers will face an attractive 11-game schedule that includes a pair of Maryland schools - the University of Maryland for the first time and Morgan State in the renewal of a long rivalry.
On Saturday, September 3, Coach Rob Ambrose (right) and the Tigers open their 43rd season of intercollegiate football when they host Morgan State at 7:00 p.m. It will be the 23rd meeting between the local rivals. It will also be ninth time that the teams have opened the season against each other.
Colonial Athletic Association action begins in Week 2 as Villanova University visits Unitas Stadium. The Wildcats are one of five teams on the Tigers' schedule that advanced to post-season play in 2010. (Maryland, Delaware, New Hampshire and William & Mary also went to the post-season.)
The Tigers' 7:00 p.m. game against Villanova has been designated as the "Night of Champions" and "Band Night."
After an open date on September 17, Towson resumes its season on September 24, hosting Colgate University in the Homecoming Game at 7:00 p.m. It will also be the Tiger Club Decades Reunion Game.
On October 1, the Tigers travel to College Park for their first-ever meeting with the Terrapins at Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium. This is the fourth year in a row that Towson has played an NCAA Bowl Championship Subdivision (BCS) opponent. In 2008, the Tigers opened the season at Navy. In 2009, the Tigers faced Northwestern in the opener before taking on Indiana University last year.
A game time has not been announced for the Towson-Maryland game.
After facing the Terrapins, the Tigers return to Unitas Stadium on October 8 to host another CAA opponent when they face Richmond at 7:30 p.m. Due to Yom Kippur, kickoff will be delayed until after sundown.
The next week, on October 15, the Tigers visit Old Dominion for the first-ever game against the Monarchs at 3:30 p.m. A third-year football program, Old Dominion is playing its first season as a member of the CAA. The Tigers are back on the road on October 22 with a trip to William & Mary for another 3:30 contest.
On October 29, the Tigers return home to host rival Delaware, an NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) finalist in 2010, at 6:00 p.m. It will be the 13th meeting between the Tigers and the Blue Hens.
On November 5, the Tigers visit the University of Maine in another CAA contest, which is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff.
The Tigers close out their home schedule on November 12 when they host New Hampshire for a Senior Day matchup. The game time has not been announced.
On November 19, the Tigers travel to Rhode Island in the regular season finale for a 12:30 p.m. start.
The NCAA FCS Playoffs begin on November 26.
